Evolution Korea
For a long time the Korean scientific community resisted working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. However, silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of how the concept of development has evolved.
What is Evolution?
The theory of evolution is a branch of science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adjust to their environment, which can lead to variations in genes or whole genomes. These changes can, over generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals with advantageous traits survive and reproduce more than those with less favorable traits. This differential reproduction can, over time, lead to the emergence and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing, but the concept itself has had many different meanings over the years as it has taken shape in the sciences and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to evolve into a different species. The term transmutation was coined by Lamarck's student embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process in which living things develop characteristics to increase their chances of surviving or conceiving offspring. In time, this genetic variability can lead to the emergence of completely new physical or biological traits in the population. Natural selection is the process that drives the most evolutionary changes. However, non-genetic changes such as the increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet cannot be considered to be examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the tests of time and thousands of scientific experiments Creationists have taken advantage of the notion that the theory is controversial and claim that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories against evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary history of humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino that is believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains how Earth and all its living species evolved. It also serves as a basis of biology, and aids scientists comprehend how living organisms operate and develop. Evolution also shows how different species are connected. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world, and to make useful discoveries including the development of new treatments.
The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe as well as life on this planet and has been rigorously tested and confirmed over a long period of time. Many people, including some religious leaders, support the scientific theory of evolution. It is crucial to keep in mind that evolutionary biology isn't in contradict religious beliefs because it only addresses physical objects, events, and processes.
Many religious people have discovered a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. For instance some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is important that scientists and educators speak out for the teaching of evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution has been growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit the teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbook content on the evolution of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. This belief is based on a variety of reasons. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions such as developing new drugs, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are just curious, whereas others have a strong religious belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists are usually divided into two groups: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The most well-known type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in the exact way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true and that the universe and the life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs might not be as popular however their beliefs are as passionate like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is a myth.
Both kinds of creationism deny the idea that scientific principles like biogenesis and natural selection could explain how life came to be on Earth. They argue that evolution isn't possible because it would require a miracle, and that the founders of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary as well as special creation and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." This is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from created kinds." The theory suggests that God creates the original species and then allows these to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.
Others believe that God created the universe and all living things in one event, known as the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all the species of the beginning were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, certain researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and allow the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curriculum.
What is Creationism?
When people think of the concept of the concept of creationism, a lot think of the United States. However, South Korea is also home to an anti-evolution movement. Publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they will remove the mention of evolution in their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) is the one who has led this effort. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an bird, the Archeopteryx. The next goal is to eliminate portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its goal, it says is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The causes are not clear, but could include religion or the absence of creation scientists in the US.
The KACR accomplished a number of things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences with an evolutionary perspective that sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a click here professor along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from outside the country including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on the subject of creation science at major seminaries. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
